Marigolds Boutique Cut Flower Farm
“I was inspired because she truly works for happiness.” - Kate Hudson (CEO Student)

Alli Piocos, owner, started her flower farm in Dow, IL (near Elsah) three years ago after tragedy struck her family (please take the time to read more about her story in her own words on the business’s website). She dove in without no knowledge of how to operate a flower farm and has found success in bringing joy to others with her beautiful flowers.

Alli has a warm, peaceful, inviting nature about her that has spread to her flower garden. She was so generous to let each student pick/cut their own bouquet. The students chose someone they felt grateful for in their life to give their flowers to.
She not only is running a business, but also does her three most important jobs: wife. stay-at-home mom and foster mom. She was previously a teacher and also has a background in interior design.

In addition to the flowers, we visited the horses on the farm that are used for equine therapy. A nonprofit business ran primarily by her mother to help kids and families who have experienced trauma (her parents are entrepreneurs as well and own Post Commons). Students learned that horses are very intuitive and can provide much comfort.

We learned about word of mouth marketing, gorilla/high-touch marketing (Alli sometimes will leave bouquets on porches with her business card in them), using formulas to make each bouquet/time management, grants/non-profits, and so much more!

“My biggest influence would be my dad. He has always chased authentic community and using businesses to help change the culture of places and I love how he chooses to do hard things even when they aren’t the popular things and always stays true to his morals and where the big guy is leading him.”

Best piece of advice: “find something you love doing to bless others and then work your butt off to turn it into something that makes the hard work worth it!”

This business visit left us inspired in so many ways beyond selfish ambitions, but rather how we can create beauty and serve others in doing so. Thank you so much for having us!
