David Stine Furniture
David Stine & Stephanie Abbajay
“Pairing the right client with the right piece of wood and seeing a dream come together.” - David’s answer when asked what his favorite part of his job is.

David grew up on a dairy farm and while he soon learned he didn’t want to spend his life milking cows twice a day, he grew a passion for woodworking. Mr. Mattis and Mr. Stork both being teachers that had an influence on him, although even prior to middle school he already had impressive experience.
He moved to the northeast to attend law school and realized he much preferred working with his hands. While in DC, David Stine furniture started there in a basement 27 years ago. He met his wife Stephanie and they moved back to Dow 22 years ago and continued to grow their business to what it is today.

If you’ve dined at a restaraunt in St. Louis you most likely sat at one of his handcrafted tables. The list is long and filled with prestigious people and businesses. One of his works that we recommend seeing in person is the bench made out of a single tree trunk that now resides at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. The tree when transported to his shop was 20,000 pounds and 20’ long! This was a three year process form planning to final delivery.

What makes them different than their competitors? They do it ALL - from sustainably harvesting the trees to white glove delivery of the finished product. Nothing is wasted in the process. If they have excess, they use that to heat their shop, house, and water.

They also have an in-house finish that is remarkable. Another local woodworker referred to David Stine as “an elite woodworker” and when you see his work you know that compliment is deserved.

When we walked in the doors we were greeted by Stephanie’s welcoming smile. Did you know that she is an author - she wrote a fascinating book based on the true story involving her family’s bar. The book is named, A Bar in Toledo, “The untold story of mafia front man and a Grammy-winning song”. You can find the book on Amazon, along with its 41 reviews rating highly at 4.6.

If you’d like to hear more on these two, go to WJBM’s website and check out their interviews.
